Overview

Coordinate, manage and execute the activities of a classification or key program.  Assist the Merchant in developing, executing and communicating a product strategy that meets or exceeds financial goals.  The Associate Merchandiser is a Merchandiser in Training role, therefore the responsibilities are the same, but the scope of responsibility is less in volume and/or complexity.

Responsibilities

Leadership

          Partner with others regarding decisions on line, ect to gain support and consensus.

          Communicate effectively with the cross-functional team. 

          Continually update team on state of the business.

          Look to improve our work process; identify inefficiencies and make recommendations to streamline workload for the team.

Merchandising

          Develop a merchandise line plan by month, by zone.  Determine volume drivers and essential programs, CC count, retail pricing, and fabric recommendations; present to Design and Production.

          Attend line presentations and review line against merchandise plan; submit comments based on market needs.

          Assist the Merchandiser through the merchandising process.  Communicate changes regarding strategy and assortment to Planning, Allocation, Technical, Visual, Production and Licensing. Tailor each discussion to address each groups focus on the assortment.

          Discuss the assortment informally and formally with management; have an informed point of view.

          Edit the assortment by reviewing the assortment and discussing store distribution and store groupings.

          Participate in assorting at least one classification of the business by contributing your own ideas in decisions to add, eliminate, change/revise the product or adopt the product as presented.

          Update and maintain the buy sheets on a weekly basis.  Distribute to the merchandising team as needed.

          Participate in monthly best seller meetings and quarterly line review meetings. 

          Partner with Merchandise Assistant to manage samples for department. 

          Continue to refine understanding of the Club Monaco customer. 

          Maintain monthly store visits in addition to pre-flip walk thrus. 

          Assess CC count, visual presentation, windows, gain feedback from storeline.  Apply feedback to future buys.

Financial

          Provide input on budgets:  sales, gross margin, receipt flow.

          Assist in the markdown process.  Provide recommendations for department weekly, based on sales trend versus sales plan of the style.

          Review business performance.  Recap business weekly, hindsight business monthly by zone.  Identify product opportunities for future seasons.

          Analyze the current seasonís business based on pre-flip and flip sales.

          Accurately reconcile receipts weekly.

          Participate in the OTB process.  Voice recommendations to cross-functional team to maximize the business based on sales trend and receipt on-order.

Production

          Partner/respond daily to any production logistical problems including shipments, tracking, costing, garment details or requests for information.  Communicate issues to CFT and management as needed.

          Attend fittings weekly for area of responsibility.

Skills and Requirements

At least one-three years retail buying experience

Computer proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word

Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment

Excellent English communication skills - verbal and written

Excellent time management/project skills

Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail

Ability to recognize and react to changing work demands

Comfortable and confident in making effective autonomous (and group) decisions in a timely manner

Goal orientated: ability to stay focused on creating winning results

Ability to select product according to design direction

Strong budgeting, planning and negotiating skills

Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Proven ability to manage projects independently and to work as part of a team
